Why choose Magnesium Chloride Ice Melt?

Magnesium chloride is a popular “gentler” ice melt. It works at lower temperatures than rock salt and is generally considered less harsh on concrete, landscaping and indoor floors, so it is a good fit for storefronts, offices, schools and walkways with heavy foot traffic.

• Best for: walkways, entrances, storefronts, steps and areas near plants
• Tip: apply a thin layer before snow to prevent ice from bonding; keep the bag sealed between uses

Magnesium chloride FAQ

Is magnesium chloride safer than rock salt?
It is usually less damaging to concrete and vegetation than sodium chloride, though no ice melt is completely harmless — always follow the label.

Is it pet friendly?
It is often chosen for pet areas, but wipe paws after walks. See our safer ice melt guide.
